TAPI Pipeline's Afghan Section Reaches Nearly 80% Completion
Construction of the TAPI gas pipeline's Herat section in Afghanistan has reached nearly
80% completion, an Afghan government spokesperson said this month.
The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India pipeline is designed to carry Turkmen natural gas across
Afghan territory toward Pakistan and India, and the Herat stretch represents one of the project's key
remaining construction segments. Officials on both sides have periodically reported progress on pipe-
laying and route preparation over the past year as work continues in sections.
Completion of the Afghan leg remains a pivotal milestone for the broader TAPI project, which
Turkmenistan has long positioned as a cornerstone of its strategy to diversify gas export routes beyond
its existing pipeline to China.
