Turkmenistan Details Growing Portfolio of Transport Financing From Global Lenders
Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry outlined the country's expanding financial partnerships
with international lenders at a briefing this month, highlighting transport connectivity as a recurring
theme across several institutions.
Atageldi Haljanov, head of the ministry's international economic relations department, said the
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed a series of memoranda in July covering
energy modernization, transport corridors, banking-sector strengthening and green-cities initiatives. He
added that the Islamic Development Bank maintains a $1.38 billion portfolio across 30 projects focused
on transport connectivity and trade finance, while the Asian Development Bank continues to implement
its 2024–2028 Country Partnership Strategy with Turkmenistan.
Officials described the institutions as long-term development partners whose technical expertise
supports the country's transport-infrastructure ambitions, alongside continuing engagement with the
International Monetary Fund and World Bank on macroeconomic and statistical reforms.
